How to create seasonal discount offers in WooCommerce

Follow these steps to create seasonal discount offers on your WooCommerce store.

Step 1: Plugin Installation

Even though the default coupon settings in WooCommerce lets you set the coupon expiry, it does not allow you to create a seasonal discount. So we recommend you install ‘Smart Coupons for WooCommerce’ plugin by WebToffee. This WordPress coupon plugin satisfies all your coupon related requirements. 

Navigate to Plugins > Add New from your WordPress dashboard.

Search for Smart Coupons for WooCommerce plugin.

Install and activate the plugin. Read our article for more information about plugin installation.

Step 2: Set up seasonal discount offer

Go to Marketing > Coupons > Add Coupon. 

Under the Add new coupon section, enter a coupon code and description.

Let’s set up a Monsoon Season sale on our WooCommerce store with a 5% discount on all products starting from Aug 1, 2022 – Aug 31, 2022.

Scroll down to the Coupon data meta box. Under the General tab select discount type as Percentage discount. Add 5 in the coupon amount text field. 

Enable the free shipping checkbox to offer free shipping for your customers.

Set the coupon start date as 2022-08-01 (YYYY-MM-DD format by default) and the coupon expiration date as 2022-08-31.

Check the Apply coupon automatically checkbox to automatically apply the coupons to the carts satisfying the coupon conditions.

Specify the places you want to make the coupon available.

Setting up seasonal discount offers

Step 3: Adding discount conditions 

Navigate to the Usage restrictions tab under the Coupon data meta box.

Set the minimum and maximum spend value for the coupon to be available.

Let’s add a minimum spend value of 50 dollars.

Enable the Individual use only checkbox to restrict the coupon usage with other coupons.

If you want to exclude the coupon for items on sale, enable the corresponding checkbox.

Then there are options for product/category based restrictions and individual quantity restrictions.

You can make use of these options to offer special discounts on certain products. 

For example, let’s say you want to offer a 10% discount on rain wears during the monsoon season, specify the products or categories you want to offer the discount on.

Let’s leave them unchecked for now, as we are being generous and offering discounts on all products on our store.

You can also set coupon usage limits for limiting the coupon usage in your store.

Publish to save the coupon.

Step 4: Testing the seasonal discount offer

To test the discount offer, add some products to your cart and proceed to checkout.
